OCTOBER IS NATIONAL DONUT MONTH

FAVE LINKEY-POO RIGHT THIS SECOND: After a 30 Rock, Season 3 marathon, I have to say this moment where Kenneth reveals his true accent just about had me on the floor crying with laughter.

As we all know, if the interwebs says things over and over, it must be true. So based on the pages here and here (scroll to page 4 of the ad on that last one), I’ve surmised that October must, in fact, be National Donut Month.

So to celebrate the momentous event, I’ve decided to give away a free signed copy of DONUT DAYS to a lucky blog reader. But, there’s a catch. You have to tell me, in the comments, the food holiday you would create, and why. (Saying “I would create a diet or non-food holiday” doesn’t count. This is a pro-food blog, people. And I’ll just say right now that people who plug cheese and meat have a special place in my heart.)

To get you thinking creatively about some of the food holidays that are out there, try this link. You can certainly also support one of the food holidays that are in the latter link (come on, National Margarita Day? Nutella Day? I’m so there!) but you have to tell me what you love about it.

I’ll leave the contest open through the weekend and choose the winner on Monday. Happy eating, reading, and commenting!

How about National Pickles & Ice Cream Day? :) It’s such a classic (and cliche) idea, but I couldn’t find it on any of the food holiday lists.

I have to admit that during my first pregnancy there was a moment where I actually thought that it sounded like a pretty yummy combination. (I was then shocked & appalled with myself for having such a thought.) Heh.

Rachel, I love the idea! I’ve heard of sushi ice cream, avocado ice cream, so why not pickle ice cream!? I would try it with you. For sure. :)

Ohhhh snap. I’d create a bacon holiday–and for the record I was totally pro-bacon back BEFORE it was the cool food.

We’d wrap everything I could ever think of in bacon?

Cheerios–put some bacon bits in em.
Twinkie? Wrap that sucked in bacon.
Potato Chips? Can we say bacon flavored– hell-o!

      I can’t believe I just went there.

    4. Lara Says:

Jamie, I LOVE that you went there! Are you kidding? Cheerios with bacon? Yuh to the um!

I love Nabisco Pinwheels. In some markets, they’re called Mallomars. Anyway, they’re a chocolate cookie that’s got marshmallow on top and then coated with a thin plasticy tasting chocolate. They’re awesome!!!!!! And festive, too!

      My vote: National Pinwheel Day!

    6. Rebekah Says:

How about National Pop Tart Day? I love those un-healthy things.

    7. Lara Says:

I think National Pinwheel Day and National Pop Tart Day are both excellent suggestions. Also, we could have Pinwheel Pop Tarts Day. I’m just saying. Mmmm…plastic chocolate breakfasty goodness.

    8. Cari Says:

I suggest National Vegetarian Tacos Day. As you might guess, I’m vegetarian. This week I put a package of vegetarian ground beef and a taco seasoning packet together and I was so happy I thought I would cry. I haven’t had tacos in YEARS. The texture and seasoning was wonderful. I had all my (non-vegetarian) friends try it along with my (non-vegetarian) husband and they loved them too. Vegetarian tacos are healthier for you, but more importantly they are DELICIOUS. :)

      I have two :)

There should be a month to celebrate PEANUT BUTTER! I love that stuff and it goes on everything – especially ice cream. I saw it on a hamburger once on Man Vs. Food. YUM!!! I literally eat it by the spoonful. And guess what – I’ve got my kids doing it now! Oh peanut butter how I love thee :)

The second should be National Tootsie Roll Day :) I could eat an entire bag of these without blinking. On Halloween night I go through my children’s bags and take all the big ones. Ok, I’m horrible I know. But hey they’re a fat free food!

Now imagine this: Tootsie Roll Peanut Butter Ice Cream. I think I need to call Ben and Jerry’s.

I’m off to find the peanut butter ………..

Jill, that is downright inspired. Thank you for sharing…and for giving me the courage to dream.
