FAVORITE WORDS

FAVE LINKEY-POO RIGHT THIS SECOND: Kate Gosselin on Dancing with the Stars. Part of me wants her to stay because her horribleness makes for good TV. Part of me wants her gone because her horribleness is … well, just horrible.

dictionary.jpgOn a recent Facebook post, I indicated I liked the word hack. It’s both a noun and a verb. And yes, its various meanings all remind me of Kate Gosselin.

I didn’t think many others would relate to my word love, because maybe it’s just a writer thing, right? But I was wrong! So wrong! A bunch of folks weighed in with their favorite words, making me realize — there are a lot of great words out there! That people dig!

So tell me, what’s one — or two or three! — of yours? For the record, I also think slacks is an awesome word.

(Does that mean I just like words with “ack” in them?)

Shennanigans. And hijinks (have you ever seen hijinks that weren’t wacky?). But mostly shennanigans.

Where do I begin? Just a few of my favorite words, off the top of my head include the aforementioned hullaballoo and horseplay. I also like davenport (when it refers to a sofa). Other favorites would be: heinous, freak, troll, behemoth, carmelized, egregious, juniper, misanthropic, nattering nabob of negativity (phrase not a word), trapunto, and vile. (note the alphabetical order).

hooligan, hussy (actually means housewife, but used in other connotations…kinda like bi**h). Ahhh….words are fun! I am constantly trying to use different words that mean the same things with my kids so they can expand their vocabulary. Right now “weird” is the word of the month. Soooooo tired of that strange, peculiar, interesting word!

Clarification…”weird” is the word my kids are using to describe EVERYTHING lately…not me using it. LOL

“Mellifluous” and “thug” are two favorites that immediately come to mind.
